Staying healthy with diabetes is all about making healthy food choices. Make it a habit to incorporate complex carbohydrates in your diet.

Start by choosing whole grains and cereals, pulses, legumes, whole fruits and vegetables, nuts all of which are rich in fiber and complex carbohydrates.

Fiber is also a type of carbohydrate, but since it is not broken down by the human body it will give you zero calories and also will not raise your blood sugar.

Fiber adds bulk to your diet, so you will feel full for a longer time and it will also help you to control the portions – again helping you to control your sugar.

Ideally one should be having about 35 to 40g of dietary fiber a day.
